Growing Up Building

Portland DIY Girl, Torri Engler, grew up in a in a family that loved building. Her grandfather was a cabinet maker who taught her all about woodworking. She spent my summers growing up in his woodshop filled with tools; planers, joiners, table saws and everything else you could think of and even taught her how to carve.

Professionally Green

Torri’s father runs his own construction company. Torri joined the family business and learned how to estimate labor and material for jobs, write contracts and schedule sub contractors. She ran all jobs sites and built affordable green homes. She was one of the first builders to become earth advantage certified and continued on to incorporated Energy Star into their building practices.

Striking Out on Her Own

In 1998 Torri bought her first house and started doing all of her own home repairs. Her many single female friends who purchased their own first homes sought her out regularly for assistance. Torri has helped to teach basic maintenance and answer questions over the phone to many friends. She’s even assisted remote friends through emailed pictures and phone calls! Torri understands what they need to do the job and the most economical way to do repairs. Soon word was getting around, her phone kept ringing, and she decided that it was time to spread her knowledge further than her circle friends.

I truly enjoying helping women become independent in home ownership and I take great pride in watching projects and dreams come to fruition.
